Medication

Objectives:
• To develop knowledge of ‘good practice’ & ‘poor practice’ when dealing with medication inclusive of how the body processed medication and legal requirements.
• To understand the process of medication admission, storage & administration.
• To recognise the difference between ‘prescribed’; ‘non-prescribed’; controlled medication; & self-administration.
• To understand the process when medication is administered off the home.
• Be able to dispose of medication safely.
• To know the emergency response of dealing with medication administration errors.
• To recognise for quality assurance the 10 rights of medication and management responsibilities.
• To understand the difference routes of medication administration & what can appropriately be administered.
